Make money abroad

Are you teaching English abroad but struggling with saving money? Although you are being paid while teaching English abroad, depending on the country, the pay may not be a substantial amount as compared to salaries in western countries. Therefore, it is not uncommon for English teachers to find supplementary sources of income while teaching abroad. If you are considering supplementing your teacher’s salary while abroad, here are some common ways to make some extra money!

Teach English Online

This is one of the most common ways that teachers supplement their income while living abroad. Depending on where you are teaching English and your contract, the majority of your day’s teaching will be roughly from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Friday. Therefore, your evenings will be left wide open! Many teachers choose to teach online from 6 PM to 8 PM to more than double their income. After School Tutoring/Private Lessons

Another common way that teachers supplement their income is by doing private lessons. This can be with students of their own, after school, or with people from the community. Depending on where in the world you are, the price you charge per hour can differ. For example, if you are in a developing country such as Thailand, the going rate is about 300 baht ($9/hr). Whereas if you are teaching in a European country, you could charge €15-20/hour depending on your experience. Check out our blog for more information on how to become a private English teacher.

Blogging and Affiliate Links

Depending on your online presence, you can make money blogging and using affiliate links. While teaching English abroad, you can blog about your experience and offer advice to other aspiring teachers. If you gain a large following online, you can get money through ads or affiliate links on your page (affiliate links are when you promote a product on your page and if a viewer purchases this product through your link, you receive a percentage of their purchase). For example, our affiliate program offers a 13% commission to those who purchase a course or internship using your link! This can help you to supplement your income and be a creative outlet for you while living abroad.

Work Online

Along the lines of teaching English online, you can do other odd jobs online to make money while living abroad. For example, you can do online virtual assistant work, work as a travel agent, or even a customer service representative. Depending on your background and work experience you can find all sorts of online jobs to do on the side while teaching English.

These are simply a few of the ways you can make extra money while teaching English abroad. What is something you do to supplement your income while living abroad?
