Basic phrases in italian

Mouthwatering food, world-renowned wines, exciting nightlife, and stunning architecture, what’s not to love about Italy! Unfortunately, one of the things that they are not known for is the widespread ability to speak English. So, when you are traveling there or moving there to teach English (congrats to our interns beginning this adventure), then knowing a few key phrases in Italian is essential. By learning the local language, you will be able to better understand the culture and make friends. Even knowing a few simple phrases can make a world of difference!

If you are not familiar with Italian, it is a romantic language with Latin roots, similar to Spanish and English. Depending on whether the word is feminine or masculine, the ending of the word is different. It will also change if the word is singular or plural. For example, the word “cat” is “Gatto” (masculine-singular), “Gatti” (masculine-plural), “Gatta” (feminine-singular), “Gatte” (feminine-plural).

To get you started on your journey to learning Italian, we have put together a list of key phrases. You can download the PDF version here to always have on you!
