Getting there

Once you have been formally accepted you can book your flight to Bogota. Where you and your fellow interns will be met by our dedicated team.

What do you need to organize?

  • International flights: return flights are a must
  • Police check: Each applicant must have a clean criminal record
  • Budget: spending money for your first month plus excursions outside of school hours etc
  • Travel insurance: Comprehensive cover for travel & medical insurance
  • Vaccines: Consult your doctor

Your teaching experience

A huge incentive to teach English in Colombia is the government sponsorship because the country aims to be bilingual by 2020. This means your students will range from young learners to working adults.

Your working week will be 35 hours on average, with 20 hours spent in-class and the remaining time dedicated to lesson planning and marking. Class sizes average 25 students divided between 8 different age groups.

Emphasis will be on creating fun English lessons for your students. But don’t worry, you’ll have the support of a curriculum.

What’s more, you’ll be assigned a mentor to support you through this exciting new journey.

Have you already completed a TEFL course? Then you are already well on your way to teaching English in Colombia!

If you haven’t yet, don’t worry. We recommend enrolling on our 240 hour master TEFL course to help you prepare.


At the end of your two-week orientation, you’ll begin a five to eleven month placement teaching English in a variety of places:

  • Armenia, Barranquilla, Bello, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cajicá, Cali, Cartagena, Chía, Cúcuta, Dosquebradas, Duitama, Envigado, Floridablanca, Girardot, Girón, Ibaqué
  • Itagüí, Manizales, Mosquera, Neiva, Pasto, Pereira, Piedecuesta, Popayán, Rionegro, Sabaneta, Santa Marta, Tunja or Villa de Leyva

Outside the classroom

So what are you waiting for? Visit the country where coffee is consumed like water and graffiti is a celebrated art form.

Also, the Caribbean coast hugs its borders. So you’ll enjoy beautiful weather and days at the beach.

Go in search of El Dorado, soak up the culture and meet other travellers. This is an opportunity to get the best experience out of South America!


You’ll earn a monthly salary of 1.5 Million Colombian Pesos (approximately $500 USD). That’s over double the average teaching salary in Colombia.

You will also get a completion bonus and full reimbursement of your deposit. Which can go towards a trip with your fellow TEFL interns at the end of term.
