Cambodia is steeped in history and lined with idyllic sandy beaches. The traditional cuisine is tasty and inexpensive. But what makes Cambodia extra special is the friendly and welcoming locals.

After 10 weeks of living and working there, you might not be ready to leave. World famous for its UNESCO heritage site, Angkor Wat Temple at Siem Reap attracts thousands of visitors every day.

In Phnom Penh you’ll fill your leisure time with exploring historic buildings and architecture. As well as browsing the market stalls offering every kind of souvenir possible.

You’ll begin your internship with a 7-day orientation about living and teaching in Phnom Penh. During this orientation, you’ll get an introduction to the country’s history, language and culture.  What’s more, you’ll get a sense of what to expect when you begin your teaching position and what your school expects of you.

Your teaching experience

You’ll be based in an English language school during your TEFL Internship experience in Phnom Penh. And you’ll enjoy weekends off to sight-see.

Most placements will involve teaching students with a range English ability. From teens to mature learners, and generally beginner to intermediate levels.

You can typically expect to teach up to 25 contact hours per week. Plus some preparation time to lesson plan, following the in-house curriculum. Your goal as an English teacher on this internship will be focused on conversational English practice.

You may also have the opportunity to teach English for hospitality, healthcare, business communications and public speaking classes. You’ll be able to ask advice from local teaching colleagues to assist with any help that you need.

Ten teaching workshops are also included in your TEFL internship training in-country.

Please note final decision on exact placement location. Almost everyone is placed in one area of the capital city.

  • Phnom Penh

Outside the classroom

Take advantage of the culture in this TEFL Internship by attending free Khmer cookery classes. By the end of the four sessions you’ll be a culinary whizz. And pick up the lingo to live like a local with free Khmer language classes.

Cambodia offers amazing opportunities for visitors to learn about its history and culture. So whether you stay in the capital on weekends or take a $25 dollar flight to Siem Reap, you’ll be spoilt for choice in your free time.

With $300USD monthly allowance you’ll enjoy a comfortable social life. And it’s important to know the cost of living in Cambodia is extremely low-cost. So a local English teacher can expect to earn just $250USD per month.

When budgeting your spending money, remember you’ll be placed in rent-free shared-room accommodation in a Khmer style townhouse with other teachers. Also, you’ll enjoy 3 meals per day Mon – Fri (except school holidays) plus access to a bicycle during your stay.

Best of all, after your internship, full-time teaching positions are available with salaries up to $1000USD per month. And our Khmer team will be happy to help you extend your stay in glorious Cambodia.
