Your teaching experience
If you want to teach English in Thailand, you couldn’t find a more rewarding internship than this. Your role as a teacher includes up to 24 hours of in-class teaching, Monday-Friday.
Your classes will be divided between primary and secondary school students, with an age range of 3 to 17. Lessons will focus on the spoken and written proficiency of the students. But don’t be afraid to make the lessons engaging and fun. So think music, film, food, drama – the list is endless!
Any support you need for activity planning will be on hand from your teaching colleagues. And you’ll have up to 15 hours for preparation and school activities each week.
At least two TEFL teachers are placed in each school, with round-the-clock support from your teaching colleagues. Expect to commit up to 15 hours for lesson planning, grading and extra-curricular activities.
This is the perfect programme for friends and couples. However, we recommend applying early as placement together is based on availability.
Hear from our past TEFL interns
In my final year I was unsure of maybe doing a masters or going straight into a job somewhere. So, instead, I decided to take a year out and travel while I had the chance. I had known about TEFL courses for a while and when I started to look at the best place to do one, TEFL.ie seemed to offer the widest choice of courses and possible locations.
My name is Laura. I’m 22 years old and currently teaching English in Chaiyaphum, Thailand. I had just completed my bachelor’s in English and Linguistics when I decided that I wanted to teach English abroad. I began to research which countries were best to teach English in and I watched countless YouTube videos from other TEFL teachers. My main motivation was the idea that I could visit Asia while earning money and gaining experience.
I had always been interested in teaching English abroad. It is a fabulous way to sustain long-term travel and really integrate yourself into a new country and culture. Knowing this, when I saw the program with TEFL.ie, I thought it would be a great opportunity to spend a few months in Thailand.
Plus, most people want to go to Thailand so I know it won’t be long before I see them again.
I knew I needed to change things up.
This led to me apply for a TEFL course with the TEFL Institue of Ireland who then arranged an amazing four-month paid internship in Thailand, which I would not change for anything! To be honest, I didn’t expect to end up in Thailand but it had been a dream of mine to explore Asia, explaining why it felt so surreal being there.
How it works
Outside the classroom
Stepping outside the classroom you’ll have the opportunity to experience Thailand’s rich culture. As well as that of its neighbours such as Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. Southeast Asia is a hot spot for authentic and traditional festivals, adventure trails, Buddhist temples, tantalising cuisine and nightlife.
Why not spend your school holidays island hopping with your fellow TEFL interns? Or better yet, rent some scooters and travel along Thailand’s breathtaking coastline. We can’t wait to hear all about it!
There are many reasons why you should teach English in Thailand. And one is an excellent salary. For only four months you will be one of the top-earning TEFL teachers, pocketing 30,000 – 34,000 (THB) Thai Baht per month.
Living in rent-free accommodation means your money can go towards immersing yourself in all things Thai.
This will be one of the greatest adventures of your life. So get in touch, and we will tell you why!
