Never miss an application window
The big teaching programmes open once a year and close without a reminder. Tell us where you are thinking of going and we will email you before the window shuts, and nothing else.
What is closing next
| Programme | Where | Window | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| JET | Japan | The 2027 cycle is open. The Embassy of Japan in Dublin has set the Irish closing date at 23:59 on Friday 4 December 2026, with the application submitted by email on this year’s forms. Each embassy sets its own date: the United Kingdom closes on 5 November 2026 and the United States on 13 November 2026 | Closing 4 Dec |
| Fulbright ETA | Portugal | Closed 6 October 2026. Five awards, nine month grants. US citizens only, so it was never a route an Irish passport could use — it was listed because it was the nearest hard date on our board. The nearest hard date now is JET, which closes on 5 November 2026 for UK applicants and on 4 December 2026 for applicants in Ireland | Closed 6 Oct |
| ELA scheme | Spain | No new Irish places for 2026/27. The Department of Education and Youth, which is how new Irish candidates enter Spain’s assistant programme, cites “continued administrative issues”. The 2026/27 round closed 12 March 2026. No 2027/28 dates published; last year’s round closed in mid-March | Closed for this year |
| ELA scheme | France, Germany, Austria | The 2026/27 round closed at 5pm on 12 March 2026, per gov.ie, while the French terms give 15 March. This is the Irish route into state school assistantships, run by the Department of Education and Youth. Posts run from 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027 in France, from 14 September 2026 in Germany and from 1 October 2026 to 31 May 2027 in Austria. No 2027/28 forms are published yet, read at source 28 October 2026 | Watching for 2027/28 |
| Teaching Council timebound provision | Ireland | For teachers who qualified outside the Republic of Ireland without completing induction there. Open since 22 October 2025 and closing at 23.59 on 30 December 2027, read at source 28 October 2026. One FAQ heading on the same page says 31 December, so work to the 30th | Closing 30 Dec 2027 |
| TAPIF | France | The 2027/28 window opened on 15 October 2026 and closes on 15 February 2027. Open to US citizens and permanent residents only, aged 20 to 35, with three years of higher education at departure and B1 French, so it is not a route an Irish passport can use — it is on this table because readers ask about it. The Irish route to a French assistantship is the Department of Education and Youth’s ELA scheme, whose 2027/28 forms are not yet published. Stipend €1,010.67 gross a month, about €810 net | Not an Irish route |
| NALCAP | Spain | No 2027/28 date published yet. NALCAP is the North American strand of the Spanish programme and is not open to an Irish passport, so its dates are not your dates | Not an Irish route |
| EPIK | South Korea | The official notice marks the Spring 2027 application as open. Review is rolling and no closing date is published, so apply early rather than wait for one | Apply early |
Dates checked against each programme’s own notices. Where a programme has not published a date, we say so rather than estimate one. Updated 23 August 2026: the EPIK, NALCAP and JET rows have been corrected. The earlier entries (EPIK “Spring 2027 intake open now”, NALCAP “closes early April 2027” and JET “closes mid-November 2026”) were not carried by the official notices cited for them. Programme windows on this table are pending re-verification against source at the next sweep. Updated 17 September 2026: the TAPIF row previously read “closes mid-January 2027”. No 2027/28 closing date has been published, and our own Paperwork Desk records the last cycle as running from 3 November to 15 March, so the row now names the opening month only and the status has moved from “Alert due Jan” to “Watching for dates”. Updated 24 September 2026: the JET row previously read “Opens October, closes late Nov / early Dec 2026”, taken from the programme’s generic timeline page rather than a notice for this cycle. The 2027 application opened on 21 September 2026 and the United States deadline is 13 November 2026, both read at source on 23 September. Ireland’s closing date is set by the Embassy of Japan in Dublin and we have not been able to verify one, so the row now says that rather than name a month, and the status has moved from “Alert due Nov” to “Check your embassy”. Updated 1 October 2026: the Irish JET date has now been published and the row carries it. The Embassy of Japan in Dublin closes applications at 23:59 on Friday 4 December 2026, and the United Kingdom date of 5 November 2026 has been added alongside the United States one, all three read at source today. The status has moved from “Check your embassy” to “Closing 4 Dec”. The EPIK row previously read “Intake dates not confirmed”; the official notice now marks the Spring 2027 application as open, with rolling review and no published closing date, so the row says that and the status has moved to “Apply early”. TAPIF and NALCAP were both re-read at source today and neither has published a 2027/28 date, so those two rows stand unchanged. Later the same day, in the fortnightly sweep: three changes. A Spain ELA row has been added, carrying the finding that led Issue 005 — the Irish route into Spain’s assistant programme has no new places for 2026/27 — which this page should have carried from the day that issue published. A Fulbright Portugal row has been added because it closes on 6 October, making it the nearest hard date on our board, and a page whose job is to say what is closing next should not omit the closest one; it is flagged as open to US citizens only. The TAPIF row read “Opens early Nov 2026” as a flat statement; no date is published, the last cycle opened on 3 November, and the row now says that early November is a pattern rather than a promise. The NALCAP row now states plainly that it is the North American strand and not a route an Irish passport can use. Updated 8 October 2026: the Fulbright ETA Portugal window has closed. The row read “Closes 6 October 2026” under a “Closing 6 Oct” urgency flag for two days after the date had passed; it now reads “Closed 6 October 2026”, the urgency flag has been removed, and the row points instead at JET, which is the nearest hard date on this board. No programme source was re-read today — this is a correction to a window that has passed, so every “checked” date above it still stands as written. Updated 16 October 2026, fortnightly sweep: two changes. The TAPIF row read “No 2027/28 date published” under a “Watching for dates” flag. A date has been published: the window opened on 15 October 2026 and closes on 15 February 2027, read at source today, and the row now carries it along with the fact that TAPIF is open to US citizens and permanent residents only, so it is not a route an Irish passport can use. This page carried “no date published” for two days after our own Issue 6 printed the date. The Spain ELA row was checked rather than changed: both the English and the Irish-language gov.ie pages were re-read at source today and both still carry the 2026/27 closure note in full, so this row is correct as written and the 14 October reading on the hub board, which said the English page had dropped that note, has been corrected there and in Issue 6. The JET, NALCAP and EPIK rows were not re-read today. Updated 28 October 2026: two rows added for Irish readers, and one option relabelled. This table carried TAPIF, the American route into France, but not the Irish one. An ELA row for France, Germany and Austria now gives the 2026/27 closing date of 12 March 2026 from gov.ie, the French terms’ own date of 15 March, the posting dates from each country’s 2026/27 terms, and the fact that no 2027/28 forms are published, all read at source today. A Teaching Council row adds the timebound provision for teachers who qualified abroad without finishing induction, which closes at 23.59 on 30 December 2027 per the Council’s page, read today. The Europe alert option previously led with France / TAPIF and now leads with the ELA scheme, with TAPIF listed among the routes not open to Irish passports. The JET, TAPIF, NALCAP and EPIK rows were not re-read today and stand as written. Updated 1 November 2026, monthly deadline watch: the JET, TAPIF, NALCAP and EPIK rows have now been re-read at source, and not one of their dates has moved. The Embassy of Japan in Dublin still shuts the Irish application at 23:59 on Friday 4 December 2026, by email only and on this year’s forms, which is thirty-three days from today. The United Kingdom date of 5 November 2026 and the United States date of 13 November 2026 were each confirmed on that country’s own embassy page. TAPIF still runs to 15 February 2027 on Villa Albertine’s call, NALCAP still has no 2027\/28 call published, and EPIK still marks the Spring 2027 intake open with rolling review and no closing date. Where a scheme reviews on a rolling basis we give an apply-early nudge, never a countdown, because inventing a date would be worse than admitting there is not one. The Spain ELA and Teaching Council rows were not re-read today and stand as written.
