Editor’s note
The Hire Wire is written for teachers in Ireland who are tired of guessing which TEFL jobs abroad are real. So we go to the sources: ministry circulars, embassy notices and the programme pages themselves, and we print what they actually say, with the date we checked it. Issue 004 turns that on our own board. Re-reading the Central European Teaching Program’s eligibility list this morning, we found it requires US, Canadian or UK citizenship — so the Hungary line we had been running as open since Issue 001 was never open to an Irish reader. It is corrected above, and the edition explains it. The rest of the issue is the document chain that decides whether you can take a job at all: what a Garda police certificate actually is, who is entitled to one, and which of your papers need a €40 stamp. If a line on this page is wrong, we correct it in place and say so.

JET closes in late November or early December. TAPIF opens in early November, and no 2027/28 closing date has been published yet. NALCAP has no 2027/28 date published yet. Pick the places you care about and we email you in time to actually apply, and nothing else.
Updated 3 September 2026: this panel previously read “JET closes in November” and “NALCAP goes in April”. Neither was carried by the official notice cited for it. JET now matches the programme’s own timeline of October to late November or early December, set by each embassy, and NALCAP matches the board below, which has shown no published 2027/28 date since the window shut on 30 June.
Updated 17 September 2026: this panel previously said TAPIF “closes in January”. No 2027/28 closing date has been published. Our own Paperwork Desk records the last cycle as running from 3 November to 15 March, so a January close was never carried by the source. The panel now names the opening month only. Two further changes today: the Salary Index card on this page read “Pay checked past €2,300 a month”, which was Hungary’s figure — a route Issue 004 established is not open to an Irish passport — so the card no longer quotes it. The Istanbul line has moved from “classrooms open 14 September” to past tense now that the date has passed.

Every hiring line on The Hire Wire is verified against the employer, ministry or programme’s own notice. Our own qualifications are held to the same test: Ofqual regulated, awarded by Highfield Qualifications, with the qualification number, the awarding body’s recognition number and our approved centre number all published so you can look them up on a public register.
