You will meet people who will turn into lifetime friends across the globe. Yet, moving abroad can be intimidating and you may have several questions. Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions about moving abroad alone.

Will it be safe?

Yes of course! When you are moving abroad, especially a developing country, there are always some risks. You need to use common sense, and always keep your valuables hidden and safe. If you are going out, do not drink too much and only have a few drinks. Always keep your hostel or address on hand in the local language in the event that you get lost and need to take a taxi. Lastly, be aware of the cultural differences between your home country and your new country. For example, if you are in a primarily Muslim country, you should dress modestly to respect their culture.

Will I make friends?

Believe it or not, it is very easy to make friends when moving abroad alone. When you move to a new country, you will find that many others tend to do move abroad alone as well. They are in the same position as you, looking to make friends! Before you move into a new place, you will more than likely be staying in a hostel, another great place to make friends. Everyone is very friendly and there are usually events occurring that are meant for people to meet one another.

Another great way to meet people is by joining Facebook groups. There are usually Facebook groups for expats who move abroad to specific countries or even cities. You could also meet people via Instagram! Many people post photos and tag locations when they are traveling or after moving abroad. You could always comment or DM people to make friends with others who have moved to the same place!

Why should I travel solo?

Honestly, there are countless reasons to travel alone! First, you have complete freedom to do whatever you want! When you are traveling alone, you can determine what your day looks like, whether you want to go to the beach or a museum. You will not have to compromise your time! By traveling alone, you will also be able to meet people who are similar to you and you can choose to spend time with them or to go off on your own!
