What Transition Year Students Say About TEFL

Transition Year students across Ireland are embracing a new opportunity to gain a globally recognised teaching qualification, as our TEFL TY Programme expands into 20 counties nationwide.

The programme combines accredited online training with interactive activities, quizzes, and videos. On completion, students earn an internationally recognised certificate to teach English as a foreign language — a lifelong credential that can open doors to work, travel, and volunteering opportunities worldwide.

We interviewed some of our recent TEFL graduates from Transition Year. Here is what they had to say:

What were your favourite parts of the course?

“The videos were engaging and well-structured, making complex topics easier to understand. They provided a dynamic way of learning that kept me interested and motivated throughout the course.” – Teagan

“I learned loads about the structure of English and different activities to help the students learn English and have fun at the same time.” – Sinead

“I really enjoyed watching the videos to see other ways that the material could be applied to learning inside the classroom. I found it really interesting to learn new things about the English language… I learned a lot that I had never heard of before and found it so intriguing to learn as a native speaker of English.” – Jill

What skills did you learn from taking this course? 

“I learned a lot from taking this course. I learned how to take notes quickly, and the reflective thinking tasks helped me learn a lot too. I also learned about time management and interview skills as well as how to write a CV.” – Muireann

“While taking this interesting course I learned many skills, including management and grammatical skills. I learned a lot about classroom management and how the classroom should be presented for certain activities and maximum efficiency during class time. I also learned certain rules of grammar and how to engage my class with certain methods.” – Kaja

How would you rate your overall experience of the course?

“My overall experience with TEFL has been a very positive one. It’s not a difficult course so that makes it more likeable and it’s a very straight forward course. The website is easy to login to and all the different sources given in the different chapters and modules are very helpful.” – Keela

“My overall experience of the TEFL 120 hour course was excellent. The staff were so kind and extremely helpful in anything that I was stuck or needed help with. I learned so much about English as well as teaching skills which I can use so much in life when it comes to different things like sport or even working as part of a team when I’m older.” – Sinead

Do you plan to use your TEFL qualification in future? 

“Yes, I do plan to use my TEFL qualification in the future. I plan to teach children English abroad to make money while travelling the world.” – Teagan 

“Yes, I plan to use my TEFL qualification in the future. I hope to explore the teaching world abroad across Europe. I truly hope I will get the opportunity to teach children and adults English in the near future using my TEFL qualification. I would also like to use online means to teach others the English language.” – Kaja
