Choosing a TEFL provider is harder than it should be, largely because the marketing all sounds the same. This comparison sets out what can actually be checked: where each provider is registered, who accredits it, and whether it offers AI teaching tools. We have left out composite scores, because a single number out of ten hides more than it reveals.

What we compared, and what we left out

Every row below is drawn from information each provider publishes about itself. Where a provider does not publish a registration number or a verifiable accreditation, that is recorded as such rather than filled in with an estimate.

We have deliberately not published star ratings for other providers. Review scores move constantly, they are collected on different platforms with different rules, and reproducing them here would give a false impression of precision. Check each provider’s live listing yourself for current figures.

Why registration and accreditation matter

A published registration number and a named, verifiable accreditor are the two things you can check before you pay. Ofqual regulated qualifications appear on the public Ofqual register, which means the qualification exists independently of the company selling it. Self-claimed accreditation from a body with no public register is a different thing entirely, and worth knowing about before you commit.

Differences in AI integration, accreditation type and global recognition may influence your decision. All of the established providers listed here have trained large numbers of teachers, and the right choice depends on what you need rather than on a ranking.

Which TEFL provider is right for you?

If government regulated recognition matters to you, and it usually should if you plan to teach abroad, prioritise providers whose qualifications appear on the Ofqual register. The TEFL Institute of Ireland and The TEFL Institute both hold Ofqual regulated Level 5 qualifications alongside DEAC recognition in the United States, and both include access to AI teaching tools.
