Home / A TEFL School Elective: An Interview with one of our schools!
TEFL Schools

Did you know? The TEFL Institute of Ireland provides TEFL courses created especially for Transition Year and Leaving Cert Applied students in schools nationwide. Read about one of our partnered schools’ experiences enrolling their transition year students on our programme.

Tell us about your school and why your students enrolled in our program.

This is our first year enrolling students on a TEFL Course in Castlerea Community School. All of our TY students enrolled on the 120 hr TEFL Course in order to develop their skills and knowledge. Giving our students a lifelong qualification which in turn can lead to work experiences and travelling around the world. We also want our students to become competent, independent learners.

How did the students benefit from studying our course?

There were many benefits from the course for our students. Once our students had finished the course in the classroom, they had the opportunity to use the skills and knowledge gained to teach students in our school, where English is their second language. Although the students were nervous, they found that the content of the course helped them when creating the lesson and teaching. It was evident in the short lessons the students conducted that they learned a lot. They learnt about vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation and what is required of a TEFL Teacher.

Would you recommend this course to other schools?

I would recommend this course to other schools. Not alone did our students enjoy it, but our students are finishing their year with a lifelong qualification. This allows them to teach English as a foreign language to learners anywhere in the world.  Especially to non-native English speakers who want to learn English.
